Mark A. Hepler, CPA, Chief Financial Officer for Munson Healthcare since April 2009 and Vice President of Finance for Munson Healthcare since 2005, graduated from Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration majoring in Accounting. Munson Healthcare and its partners work together to provide superior quality care and promote community health across an area covering 11,000 square miles with a population of nearly 500,000 people and, including its subsidiaries, employs approximately 6,000 people system-wide. The most significant of the Munson Healthcare subsidiaries is Munson Medical Center, a Michigan nonprofit corporation that operates a hospital in Traverse City, Michigan. Munson Medical Center has 391 licensed acute care beds, is the largest hospital in the northern Lower Peninsula, and serves as a rural regional referral center for the surrounding 24-county area. Munson Medical Center has been nationally recognized as a Top 100 “A-rated” health system thirteen times by Thomson Reuters, placing it among an elite group of three hospitals in the nation that have been recognized this many times.

A CPA since 1982, Mr. Hepler’s career includes Audit Supervisor/Staff Accountant at Plante & Moran, joining Munson Healthcare in the mid 80’s as Manager of Financial Services. In 1988 Mr. Hepler became Director of Corporate Finance for Munson Healthcare, attaining the position of Corporate Controller in 1995 and Vice President of Finance in 2003.

As a seasoned financial leader experienced in Health Care Administration and responsible for the financial health of an “A-rated” health system, Mr. Hepler’s management approach is result oriented, marked by professionalism, integrity, leadership and a strong service philosophy. His expertise includes short and long-term strategic planning, cost control, debt financing, cash and receivable management, reimbursement, financial accounting and forecasting, budgeting, cost accounting, decision support, taxation, and business formation.

In addition to Mr. Hepler’s financial leadership responsibilities of a multi-faceted $800 million health care organization, he has administrative responsibilities for Munson Healthcare’s Corporate Finance Team, the revenue cycles for the system.

Mr. Hepler is a member of the AICPA, MACPA and the HFMA. He serves as Treasurer on the North Flight, Inc., Munson Home Health and Conservation Resource Alliance Boards and a member of Venture North Board.
